On a recent business trip to China, I wanted to actually go to the factory to see the wheels made from scratch, and get that “factory direct” experience. I had a little bit of time, I reached out to Karen at Yishun, and got an invite to see the carbon manufacturing process in person. Yishun, I believe has been around longer than most of the fly-by-night carbon startups in China and started with carbon road rims. I got to see the cutting of the pre-preg UD carbon, mold lay-up, sanding, finishing and QC departments. I was impressed with the quality and precision of Yishun’s products. From what I saw, they are the factory behind a lot of other carbon fiber bike items manufactured in Asia.
